SOMA Heritage Hotel
The SOMA Heritage Hotel sits along the bank of the Tonle Sap river at the point where it converges with the mighty Mekong, drawing on these waterways for both its conceptual narrative as well as its organizational logics. As guests navigates upwards through the building, the rivers and its ever shifting colour and life remain a constant reference point.
A Stacked Narrative
The hotel has been conceived as a historical and experiential ‘stack’. On the ground, the vibrant Phnom Penh streetscape seamlessly transitions into lobby spaces and the Rattan Bistro. The 2 zones of of hotel keys are interspaced by a mid level outdoor terrace housing the pool, spa and conferencing facilities. Topping the hotel is the all day dining and rooftop bar with an uninterrupted views onto the rivers.
Occupant as Participant
A veil of motorized aluminium screens line the facade of the building, providing a buffer from the hustle and bustle of the street and privacy to the hotel rooms. Guest are able to configure the angle of opening of the screens attached to their rooms, resulting in an unpredictable and everchanging facade which mirrors the colourful character and vibrant streetscape of Preah Sisowath Quay.
